About
Understanding sound as an art form is the fundamental basis of my work philosophy “emotion through sound”.
The work of a theatre sound engineer is not limited to amplifying instruments, actors and singers. Elevating sound from a solely technical component to an integral part of storytelling has a great power to convey emotions and messages and shape a piece in new ways. Sound, as well as other forms of new media, plays an integral part in developing ways of making theatre and the performing arts in general accessible and tangible for everyone.
A pillar of my personal and artistic development is my musical education.
I believe that having profound knowledge in music theory, history and technology is substantial for working with sound in an artistic way. Being trained as a classical percussion player to a high standard helps me to understand the fundamentals of musical expression and how I can influence them with different techniques.
My strong belief is that the future of theatre and other performing arts, maybe even the arts in general, lies in the creation of multidisciplinary work. Combining the knowledge and the potential held within the different genres allows for the creation of work which is fit for the ever-changing society of our time and secures the future of the arts. Art is deeply rooted in our society and human nature; it is, and always will be, needed.
With my work in the performing arts and Sound Art, as well as collaborative work with other artists, I always try to challenge my perspective and enlarge my horizon to eventually be a part of the future development of the arts.
